5 ways to get in touch with your body

The concept of getting in touch with your body can sound abstract and even pretentious to some but many people operate on auto-pilot and don’t even recognise it.  If you’ve been feeling out of touch with your body lately, here are some ways to get back intune with it & you.

1. Stretch your body every morning and every evening

Stretching is such a simple and powerful way to get in touch with your body. By lengthening your limbs and releasing pent-up tension, you also get your digestion going. Stretching can also be very calming and centering.

2. Keep a food + feelings journal.

We’ve all heard “you are what you eat” and when it comes down to it, it’s true. Keeping a food journal to record what you’re eating and how it’s making you feel can bring some light to what you should be eating more & less of. Your body knows what it likes, needs and thrives off.

3. Close your eyes and sense more

It’s true then when one sense is shut down, others are heightened. Because we rely so heavily on our eyes, we often forget the beautiful experience of smelling, feeling, hearing and tasting. Switch senses more often.

4. Massage lotion into your body slowly and gently.

This is the most rushed part of getting ready and sometimes, understandably so but I encourage you to take your time when lotioning your body in the evening. Make this part of your evening routine intentional and nurturing. By doing this you also explore what your body feels like.

5. Walk barefoot more

Walking barefoot connects you with nature. It is known to be both grounding and calming. No wonder children hate shoes!

I hope you enjoy deploying these tips and most of all, I hope you enjoy reconnecting with your body.
